The Great American Bake Sale...Help a Hungry Child Today!

***Update***  The Great American Bake Sale will have its updated 2011 flyers hot off the press by March 1st.  Consequently, we are planning the bake sale for mid March, so check your calendars.  Please let us know if you'd like to lend a hand. Thanks!

In life, we are all "way too busy".  However, I am conscious of the fact that no matter how many things are on my to-do list, I always have a few spare moments to help someone else.  For too long, privatism has become all too apparent in the lives of American families (and our family is included).  As the saying goes, "be the change you wish to see in the world".  And so I am. I mean, and so WE are.  Our whole family and whoever else is interested is "aproning up" to the challenge.

Here are some interesting facts from the Share Our Strength Website.

·                             More than 17 million kids in America are at risk of hunger. That’s nearly 1 in 4.
·                             15.5 million kids in America live in poverty.
·                             20.1 million children benefit from SNAP (food stamps).
·                             19 million kids get a free or reduced-price school lunch on an average school day.
·                             Only 9.4 million kids get a free or reduced-price school breakfast on an average school day.
·                             Just 1 in 6 eligible kids get free summer meals.

I've been feeling it.  The primal urge to give back- to work at something bigger than my existence.  The desire to press myself to do more for others, and not just myself.  Like the wind whispering in your ear, the strong desire to rise above mediocrity has been calling.  Calling it has, for quite some time now.

Here I am, at my computer, wondering if I have indeed, bitten off more than I can chew.  Maybe I have.  And that's OK.  But at least the wind whispering in my ear, is now calling me home.

To me, it makes perfect sense.  I'm spending the year, incorporating Martha Stewart into our everyday living, and consequently, baking is definitely on my to-do list.  So I thought, "why not bake up some more cupcakes, brownies, cookies or whatever "good things" I come across?"  Join with me, if you will, to make a change.  Please visit http://www.strength.org/ to make a donation or to start a bake sale in your community!

Morgan, you are what the best of America is all about! Compassion, humanism, and sharing is NOT socialism, it is Americanism at its very roots.

Most European industrial nations are way out in front of us on that score. America is turning blue, and as time passes, and the day of institutionalized selfishness and callousness is fading...the scales are tipping in favor of your world view. The "Me" Party people are are not the "Us" party people that are now permanently in the majority.

The privatism you deplore is fading as well. Keep up the good work. Good is on your side. Love and peace.
